昨夏、生活環境の変化により家内を整理しているときに見つけました。
戦前〜昭和初期頃のものと推察される、大変趣のある本木製の朱塗文箱です。
蓋表には、古来より瑞鳥として尊ばれる「鳳凰」と、高貴な意匠である「五三の桐」が描かれています。
鳳凰の力強い筆致や、経年によって落ち着いた朱色の色調は、現代の製品にはない格調高い存在感を放っています。
内側には当時流行したモダンな散らし模様（ドット柄）が施されており、戦前のハイカラな雰囲気を感じさせる逸品です。
本木製（手にした際の木の温もりと、漆のしっとりとした質感が特徴です）
外寸：縦 約27cm × 横 約22cm × 高さ 約8cm
数十年の時を経た時代物のため、角の漆の剥げ、細かな擦れ、内側の薄汚れ等がございます。
割れやヒビなどの大きなダメージはなく、実用はもちろん、コレクションや店舗ディスプレイとしてもお使いいただけます。

Antique Japanese Lacquerware Document Box (Bunbako) Early Showa Era
This exquisite, authentic wooden document box has been kept in my family for many years and was recently rediscovered during a household reorganization last summer.
Based on its design and craftsmanship, this piece is estimated to date from the Pre-war to Early Showa era (approx. 1930s1940s). It features a stunning cinnabar lacquer (Shu-nuri) finish that has aged into a deep, dignified tone.

Auspicious Design: The lid is adorned with a powerful depiction of the Ho-o (Phoenix) and the Gosan-no-Kiri (Paulownia crest)—both symbols of nobility and good fortune in Japanese culture.
Retro Interior: The inside features a "modern chirashi" (polka dot) pattern, a popular "high-collar" (haikara) style of the era that beautifully blends traditional lacquerware with early 20th-century modernism.
Authentic Material: Made of natural wood. You can feel the gentle warmth of the wood and the distinct, supple texture of genuine Japanese lacquer.

Condition:
As an authentic vintage item several decades old, there are signs of wear including lacquer chipping on the corners, fine surface scratches, and slight staining on the interior.
