60年代に渡辺プロの3人娘として絶大な人気があった園まりさんですが、70年代に入ると新しいアイドル登場の時代とともに目立ったヒット曲がありませんでした。そんな中1972年夏に発表されたシングル「旅情」は、作詞；橋本淳、作曲；筒美京平という黄金コンビでヨーロッパの絵葉書の様な世界を見事に再現した大人の園まりにしか出せないエレガントな作品でした。丁度前年暮れにに大ヒットした奥村チヨの「終着駅」(こちらは千家和也＆浜圭介作品)の続編のような大人の女性歌手にしか歌えない70年代を代表する名曲です。この時期TVでもこの歌を歌唱するまりさんは天地真理や小柳ルミ子に熱狂するファンとは一線を引いた一部の中高生を魅了していました。この路線でもう数枚を出していれば... と惜しまれます。合掌
ここからは推測ですが...大ヒット曲「終着駅」のB面曲が阿久悠＆筒美京平作品であることを考えるとそこから半年後に園まりさんに初めて京平作品の「旅情」を提供した経緯は作曲家同志の<大人の勝負>のように感じるのは読み過ぎでしょうか。

Mari Sono was extremely popular in the 60s as one of the three daughters of Watanabe Productions, but in the 70s, as new idols appeared, she had no notable hit songs. In the midst of all this, the single "Tabijou" released in the summer of 1972 was an elegant work that only the adult Mari Sono could produce, with lyrics by Jun Hashimoto and music by Kyohei Tsutsumi, a golden duo that beautifully recreated a European postcard-like world. It is a masterpiece that represents the 70s and can only be sung by adult female singers, like a sequel to Chiyo Okumura's "Shushukueki" (this one is a work by Kazuya Chie and Keisuke Hama), which was a huge hit at the end of the previous year. During this period, Mari, who sang this song on TV, attracted some junior and senior high school students who drew a line between her and the fans who were crazy about Mari Amachi and Rumiko Koyanagi. It would be a pity if they hadn't released a few more albums along this line. Rest in peace.
This is just a guess, but considering that the B-side of the smash hit "Terminal Station" was written by Aku Yuu and Tsutsumi Kyohei, is it too much to read into the fact that he first provided Sono Mari with Kyohei's "Tabijou" six months later as a "grown-up contest" between composers?
