A collection of recordings from Folkways Records that delves into the origins of Cuban music. In the liner notes, percussionist John Santos unravels the history of Cuba from the slave era through traditional music of Yoruba origins, such as Santeria and Lucumi, Rumba, Bolero, Guaracha, Son, performed by local performers in 1978 and 1979. Also mentions the influence of these musical forms on popular music such as Salsa. Think it is an important resource that extends to Cuban music and Latin music as well. The recordings were made by Verna Gillis, an ethnomusicology who has also left behind many recordings for Folkways and Lyrichord. This is a rare, late-period release from 1985, in excellent condition with shrink wrap.
